Your AI has never worked here

People keep saying general AI struggles in specialist industries and the answer is domain-specific data.

That is half right.

A strong model can explain supply-chain planning, electrical maintenance, insurance claims or construction estimating. Ask it what your technician is allowed to do on Site 14 this morning and it is blind.

It does not know which procedure changed last week. It does not know the asset history, the customer exception or who needs to approve the next step.

The gap is not the industry.

It is your company.

Give the model a folder full of manuals and you still have the same problem. Which file is current? Which one is authoritative? Which rule applies to this site? Which old decision was a mistake nobody wants repeated?

More data can give the model more ways to be wrong.

Fine-tuning is not the magic fix either. It can teach a stable pattern, such as how to classify a request or format an answer. It is a terrible place to bury a changing price book, safety procedure or customer record.

The useful setup is boring: a strong general model connected to one source of truth, live systems, permissions, approval gates and logs.

The model brings the reasoning. Your system tells it what is true, what it can touch and when it needs to ask a person.

That whole setup is the specialist.

The model is only one part of it.

The rule

Your AI does not need to memorise your company.

It needs a reliable way to find out what is true here, right now and what it is allowed to do about it.
